Ice cream social

Eric and Tina Wynne serve ice cream to 11-year-old Lydia Johnson Tuesday at Our Lady of the Lake Parish Center.

Jesus Was Homeless paired ice cream and auction items for its first-ever ice cream social Tuesday at Our Lady of the Lake Parish Center.

Jesus Was Homeless Community Relations Director Ashley Lauer said the goal for the nonprofit’s ice cream social was to bring the community together in the heat of the summer.

In the midst of feeding as many people in extended-stays and other housing units, Lauer said Jesus Was Homeless is continuing the construction of its soon-to-be new location on Gretna Road.

The building will increase the nonprofit’s square footage by more than 13,500 feet for a total of 17,000 square feet, according to a press release.

The new building will offer more classrooms for the Jobs for Life program, a larger kitchen and pantry, and a telemedicine room. A laundromat and thrift store will also be incorporated into the new facility.
