REEDS SPRING — Dorus “Doad” and Marilyn Childs, of Reeds Spring will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception hosted by their children on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 6-10 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 2 Woodland Ave, Kimberling City.

    All family and friends are invited to join in this celebration. Music and munchies will be provided with a cash bar available.

    Doad Childs and Marilyn DeWees were married on Dec. 20, 1964, in the home of Marilyn’s mother, Venona DeWees in Glidden, Iowa. They created a home together in Council Bluffs, Iowa, until 1976 when they moved to Lampe to purchase and run Lakeshore Resort and Campground.

    After selling the resort and moving to Gobblers Mountain down DD Highway, Doad spent several years working in the area at such places as the Hillbilly Bowl and Ozark Mountain Resort while Marilyn worked for Ozarks Realty in Kimberling City.

    They later owned and operated a used furniture store, the Emporium Furniture Store, in Kimberling City and both worked for many years for Hamilton Bros Auction Service. Doad currently works for Holt Auction Service while Marilyn works for Hallmark and is known as “the card lady at Wal-Mart.”

    They continue to live and work in the Reeds Spring/Kimberling City area, attend the First Christian Church of Kimberling City as founding members, and have made numerous friends and acquaintances throughout their years in the lake area.         Together the couple has been blessed with a great inheritance of loved ones including their children, Dave Childs and wife Barb, Vicky Childs Hatthorn and husband Larry, Doug Childs and wife Debbie, Tony Childs and wife Charlotte, Jeff Childs, Carla Childs Blair and husband Matt, Antoinette Childs Westpheling (forever in our hearts) and husband Ronnie, and Pamela Childs Farrell and significant other Randy Payne; 25 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
