As the Monty Python comedy troop would say, “…and now for something completely different.”

What was introduced Monday at the Branson Christmas Coalition announcement attended by more than 600 community leaders was certainly not a comedy routine, but it certainly was different.

    And that’s good.

I believe fully implemented, the 3D digital Christmas light and animation shows proposed for the area have the potential to bring hundreds of thousands of more visitors to the Branson area.

    Why?

Because it will be different. It will be big. It will be cool. It will be unique. There won’t be anything like it anywhere else in the country.

Donald Trump is not the only person who uses the word “huge” to describe something great. This could be huge for Branson.

People like to see something new, to experience something different. They will get that here in Branson once the new 3D light and animation displays are in place. It will bring people to Branson. They will see the 3D lights, but then they will also visit Silver Dollar City, see the music shows, eat in restaurants, go shopping, stay in hotels … and do everything else there is for visitors to do here.

They will spend money here. And they will leave with the understanding they have seen something very different. They will tell their friends and family who will also come in future years.

Research shows that Christmas visitation here has been stagnant and even down the last few years.

We could keep doing the same thing and hope that things turn around and go in our favor. But that would be the definition of insanity.

If we want things to change, we have to try something different.

If you want to see something different, go to BransonChristmas.org and watch the animation produced by PointCloud Media.

I am anxious to hear more details about how this is going to work. I think it is going to work. The combination of the private sector investment and public funds is the right way to go to make best use of the opportunities we have here to bring more people to Branson.

Kudos to the people who set this in motion. We will be able to grow visitation and keep Christ in Christmas.

Taking a dream like this and turning it into a reality won’t be easy. But it can be done, especially here ... where dreamers dream big and then turn those dreams into reality.

It has happened here before.  It can happen here again.

Thanks for reading the Branson Tri-Lakes News.
