MARSHFIELD — Reeds Spring’s running game did enough damage in the first half alone to power the Wolves past Marshfield 48-14.
Reeds Spring was up 28-0 at halftime, thanks to its 346 yards rushing over the first 24 minutes. Quarterback Blake Gronvold had two touchdown runs and 15 carries for 179 of his team-high 182 yards rushing in the first half.
Gronvold finished with three touchdown run.
Halfback J.T. Bayliff, making his first varsity start, ran for 74 of his 77 yards in the first half.
The Wolves finished with 482 yards on 50 carries (9.6 avg.). They lost yardage on only one run all night.
Gronvold and Austin Staugaard both had a run of 40-plus yards. Overall, Reeds Spring had eight runs of more than 20 yards.
Staugaard finished with two touchdown runs and 95 yards on four carries.
Defensively Cole Crutcher and Ben Moler each posted a quarterback sack and a tackle for a loss. Cole Nordin picked off a Marshfield pass. Collin Cross and Austin Bradfield both were in on six tackles.
The Wolves (5-2 overall and 5-0 in the COC Small Schools Division) have won five straight and outscored their opponents 236-50 during that stretch.
Reeds Spring plays host to Buffalo this week in preparation for a showdown for the COC Small Schools championship in Week Nine.
